I was startled when i read an article "Remembering Roop Kanwar".The way the widows are treated in north India,as though they don't have any right to live. And this is called tradition?They are not allowed to go out in the daytime and are forced to sit in a cubicle.They are treated as though they were a burden for the entire society.This is no different from sathi,the continuous sitting and restricted food chokes her to death.I don't think that education has brought about any significant changes in the way widows are treated. What happens the other way round?Why is this only for women?Why are men not subjected to this barbarism?
